Pair of 13" Bardin desk top globes from 1829.
Extensive map loss especially bad on the celestial. Failure of the stem that holds the meridian ring in place has resulted in continual rubbing and damage to the plaster. The terrestrial has a large hole in the bottom and both will need extensive repairs to the plaster before the gores can be restored and reapplied. Both stands have been damaged, the celestial more so and will need to have sections of wood renovated. The horizon rings are in extremely poor condition and the paper has rotted. All brass work is extremely tarnished and will be sympathetically cleaned. More photos will be added here as work progresses. |
